It’s been a while ;D

If I start with that line I probably be clobbered by many of my old readers, but heck. It’s been a really awful long while since I wrote in here.

Let’s see, how to have a summary of what happened this few months? After all, how can I cramp a whole 3 months into this one post. Laughs. Let’s start at the very beginning: November 2010…

Ah, that crazy period where school work was at a crazy level and I was trying to finish my Final Year Project(FYP) at the very same time, it was also then I lost the will to write in my blog, with exams looming and my future uncertain. That also the very first time I went into the examination hall, turned over the paper and went “Oh Noes! I don’t understand what the paper was writing about!”. But thankfully that was not the end of the world, in December where I gotten my results back, I blinked a few time on the result screen, pinching myself to see if I was dreaming, it turns out that I didn’t do too badly, not too well either. You know, like average. Tossing my GPA aside, I didn’t really have to worry about much.

The Winter break came and halve of it I was with my team in wrapping up our last bits for our FYP (Woohoo!) The remaining halve which I felt it was way too short, soon came to an end. Without me doing anything much productive, perhaps only for catching up drama episodes that I missed during the mad rush earlier that year. To be honest, this period seems to be like a blur to me now when I think back.

Fast forward to January 2011, I stumbled upon the wonders of micro-blogging, tumblr to be exact. Started recording my daily rambling in it, which I planned to make it an idea plotter for my blog (here), however the thing is, it seems really bothersome to repost most of the stuff from there to here, I’m trying to do this now so we will see how it goes.

*Looking at the tumblr archives* Okay… Bought the Bakemonotagari novel (Volume 1) from Kinokuniya, (Finally!) Especially, after that period (how long ago was it?) where I thought I saw the Bakemonogatari novel in the Chinese novel section, I was wondering if I really did see it there before (Yeah, I think I did but it never appeared again, until recently and it’s kinda different looking now).

I really liked the novel, and hopefully one day I will be able to read the text in the original language (Japanese). The anime sticks closely with the novel, however there are some parts where things are actually omitted, not really a biggy at least for the Bakemonogatari anime. I managed to acquire the Katanagatari Novel not long after that, the anime was missing out certain major parts, compared to the novel. It could be due to the subtitles or timing restriction, Shichika’s character in the first episode was lacking (he is smart, but lazy to think.) that wasn’t really reflected, it could be just me though. I can’t really comment on the rest of the episodes because I couldn’t get my hands on the other volume of the novels currently :(.

Heard the Hayate no Gotoku op song played on the machine. Upon closer inspection…

I think it won’t be long before you can plug in you music player and play the tunes on it in the machine. What a cool concept huh.

Random thoughts on Mangas

I like how this “conquest” is going.

This arc is rather interesting as Keima has to go after the slient type shiori once more. What better way to win a book loving girl’s heart than attacking straight from a story?

lol, by browsing through shiori’s novel, keima realizes the main heroine, simmon and her love interest catsurahi is a novel representation of shiori and keima in real life, including events from her previous “conquest”. Haha. That was a nice touch, all seems going well for the couple, until catsurahi was abruptly killed off. Keima’s reactiob was hilarious!

Deciding this(the novel) will be a idea way of comunicating with shiori and understanding her thoughts, keima gave the ending a twist! Catsurahi comes back fron the dead(cliche, he was weaing a vest ).

This was when shiori returned and saw the alterations, furious. she tried killing catsurahi off and claiming that simmon doesn’t feel a thing for him.

The next few panels has shiori and keima scribbling the novel, between killing him off and bringing him back again. That was priceless. Laughs.

Shiori finally snapped and made simmon exclaim “why do you keep coming back!?”

Keima answered with catsurahi “because i wanted to be with you…” Ooo, nice one keima. Bet that earned lots of points.

The chapter ends just there, with a shot of keima and shiori with their novel counterpart appearance!

Interesting concept. Negative emotions or feelings actually take form of a black fog. From the Manga, Monochrome Mist.

Notice this cybody looks very similar to Takuto’s Tauburn? This should be the cybody of the leader of vanishing age.

I’m convinced that guy is takuto’s dad(they kept zooming in on the R in the painting, fore-shadowing?), hence similar cybody, or maybe it’s the same one! Just with a different mask.

Mizuno stuck in her own version of endless eight. Scary. ~insert cicadas cries here~

Star driver is getting more and more interesting, with all the identities of the priestess known to kira-boshi group, it’s looks like they are going after Mizuno next.

The episode ending with Mizuno hearing a tempting offer of getting her of the island, by the east priestess!?

The episode was great, i really thought Takuto would lose. Lol.

Only to find him powered up once we enter a flash back of how he gotten his mark. Mizuno became Jedi spirit like when viewing his memory.

But the enemy got defeated after few seconds this time, again. Haha.

God Eater Promotional Anime Video

Been rather hooked on the PSP game: God Eater, so when I found out there was a promo anime video that depicts the story before the start of the game, I pretty much went nuts over it.

The crazy part was listening to it in moonspeak, until I found subtitles for it. Hahaha. And what do you know! A sequel is coming out soon! Woo hoo!

A short story I read

Was at the library today again, browsing through their collections of books, and I happened to land my eyes on a Chinese novel, can’t recall the full title now, but it has a “HOLIDAY” in the title. The novel was in the same novel series where it featured another famous short story, “Calling You” which was made into a movie (I liked that movie, even though the ending was bittersweet)

The book contained 2 short stories, but I had only managed to finish the first one today. It had made a deep impression on me and I just wanted to write it down somewhere. The title of the short story is 幸福宝贝 which roughly translate to “Treasure of Happiness”, it features a gloomy and anti-social protagonist which has found a cheap place to rent for his college life, seems like a good deal right? Yeah, except for the past that the land owner has conveniently left out: A university student was murdered in that exact house just 3 weeks earlier…

As all supernatural stories goes, our protagonist slowly finds out that he is definitely not alone in the house, and that the spirit of the previous occupant is still living in it with him. Instead of taking a typical horror turn, we find out that the spirit does not go out of her way to scare our dear protagonist, and in fact helps in ways like making breakfast, coffee for the protagonist. As the story progresses we are offered more insight into what kind of person the spirit was through the eyes of the protagonist, e.g. she was a sunny like girl who like to take pictures, a total opposite of the protagonist (gloomy and anti-social).

There was one part where the protagonist mentions that she wasn’t really that scary, and in return he found a letter on his desk next morning with the classic horror threats, well… at least it was till halfway where it looks like she got bored of writing it and just mentions she was feeling lonely, and would like some noodles. That scene was priceless XD.

Endings… each story has one and even though I wanted it to go on forever, it was soon I realized I was reaching the ending of the tale. The murderer was apprehended, and it was time for her to move on, she then leaves a letter to the protagonist to cheer him up and tells him the world isn’t as dark as he thought out to be. It ends with the protagonist opening the curtains and started the routine cleaning (since she is not around anymore).

For a short story, I felt it was well-written, I hope other people will also enjoy it as well.

Time of Eve

“Are you enjoying the Time of Eve?”

That’s the first sign you will see when you enter into this hidden cafe. First time visitors will be informed of rule that states “No discrimination between humans and robots” within the cafe.

Set in the futuristic era of Japan, where robot usage has become an everyday occurrence. The improvement of technology has made it hard to differentiate between robots and human, thus making it compulsory for robots to be identified with glowing rings above their heads.

Yup, this time round I’ll be sharing about the anime: Time of Eve (A.k.a Eve no Jikan). The viewers will follow through the story on the perspective of Rikuo, a high school student that stumbled upon the mysterious cafe after checking on the movement logs of his robot, Sammy.

Why do I like this anime? I always had an interest in stories that features robots and humans, the concept/fear of robots taking over the world (Matrix) and the fact that if robots become humane over time. As a big fan of Isaac Asimov’s work I was happy to see the three laws of robotics incorporated in this story, it was well placed as it explored the possibility of the future where humans will become afraid of robots due to the reason where robots are becoming “better” than humans, with different views where it could be a good or bad thing.

Unlike stories of Isaac Asimov, Time of Eve mainly features heartwarming stories that picture the robots in a more favorable role, of how they are trying to fit into human society, and perhaps they are in fact not that different from humans after all.

In order not to spoil the your experience of Time of Eve, I’m not going to talk about the exact story, but overall it’s what I have mentioned above.

Durarara!!

This time I’m going to be talking(writing would be more accurate :D) about the Anime: Durarara!!! It’s a novel-turned-anime, with it’s setting in modern Japan, Ikebukuro to be exact. I have been watching this from the first episode and has been hooked ever since.

Why is it so interesting to me? Visuals are nice, characters has depth and the story just rocks! Every episode features a character narrating the story and each episode focuses on a character (much like Baccano, which I never got to finish watching it T-T), the first episode introduced the cast of Durarara!! We see it through the perspective of Mikado, a newcomer to Ikebukuro, a good choice if you ask me, as the viewers can relate easier. The strangeness soon creeps in when the viewer meets the incredible people in Ikebukuro, like the urban legend headless rider, the vending machine throwing bartender, or the girl who has strange scars on her neck…

The way Durarara does it is that it gives you bits and bits of information every time, it might not make much sense at the present time… But the episodes that follows will slowly shed more light, and the fact that everything is linked in Durarara!! (This might be a bad example, but this reminds me of Lost), which leaves the viewer a “so-this-was-why” feeling after working them to the climax of the story.

Since they go into the stories of different characters, it gave the cast more depth, although similar tactics was used in Baccano, I felt this worked exceptionally well in Durarara!! Maybe it was more organized? Maybe from what I written so far it may seem that Durarara!! is a serious anime, but it does has it’s share of funny/comedic moments.

Wow… I planned only write a little about this, but it kinda grew on it’s own. The funny thing is that there is still much I want to write about this anime. I guess I should hold back to another time.

PaintChat Fun

So what exactly is this Paint Chat? (Like you can’t guess from the name :D )Well, it’s like a chat room of sorts, where you can also draw in it. It’s a great deal of fun (at least for me :p ) to be able to see wonderful pictures and paintings being done on the spot!

The interface(drawing interface) there is quite different from my favorite drawing/painting program - SAI ( I miss the ability to turn the canvas T-T ), but still quite use-able (needs some time to get used to it ).

I tried to draw stuff there too XD (Drawing below)

Of Heroes and Cowards

Had always been toying around with the idea of making a manga strip.

But kinda been stuck in my head for like a few months... Lack of motivation? Haha, maybe.

Originally, I wanted to have more panels in telling of the story (it's kinda fragmented huh?) But time is not on my side >_<

So what's happening in the strip?

In short: Our heroine, Elise received a letter from her childhood friend who went to fight the war against the "invaders", knowing that the final mission was a near suicide mission to wipe out the "invaders" he drafted this letter to Elise.

And the story begins…

Those words, although simple or even mundane, contained far more meaning (well, at least that’s what I felt after reading Cross†Channel).

Cross†Channel is a Japanese Visual Novel (What is a Visual Novel?) which I had the chance to come across and enjoy, thanks to the hard work of the FlyingShine and the translation group Amaterasu.

Depicting a not-so-normal summer at the Gunjo Gakuren (Blue Marine School), we get acquainted with the different characters of the story, each having their own reason for enrolling into this ‘particular’ school…

The protagonist, Kurosu Taichi (which we are portraying) is a highly ‘different’ individual (Why different? Read the Visual Novel to find out!), but with his slightly perverted pranks and silly gags, I found him to be a pretty fun character. His name, Kurosu is a play on the words “Cross” which links to the concept of the story. Yes, crossing boundaries and understanding each other is never easy! Even although the world now is smaller due to technology, we can easily reach anyone on the other side of the world, and yet we humans are still a lonely existence…

I think that’s pretty much all I can say without giving away the story.

The soundtrack is surprising warm and soothing it complements the the visual novel well

The Way Home

The following section will contain my thoughts on the story itself, so for those who do not wish to be spoilt on the story do not click the hide/show link.

The story was fantastic! With it’s high and low magnificently weaved, the first week (here weeks represents the chapters) started out with the simple introduction of the setting and the characters, it was simple and all… The scenes were well joined together, it was until much later in the story I realized that there was indeed something wrong…

The human race had cease to exist! From the second week onwards, things started to change, at that point I didn’t thought that it was a loop but rather a reflection on what happened in the first week. Well, I was wrong. I got stuck at the second week for some time, until I found the option to go to the Hokora where the journals of the past versions Taichi had been stored (as a tranquil and peaceful place it was very fitting to have the effects of time not being affected there). With the awareness that the week was indeed looping, Taichi tried to change things, but failed one way or the other (Higurashi anyone?).

Kiri’s route was the only one where everyone was still in one piece, but they still got reset anyway (aww) it was also one of my favorite routes, mainly because it was there I got to see more into the random guy Yutaka that Taichi seems to keep recalling, it was a “so that was the reason” moment.

Miki’s route was a bit freaky as everyone died due to weird circumstances, I LOL-ed at the fact that reason behind it was just coincidental (Give a typewriter to a monkey and within the immense nonsensical lines, a few words that make sense will appear ) Plus the twist to the story was Miki has been avoiding the reset by staying at the Hokora, but she forfeited her memories by staying with Taichi when the reset happened (Just because she loved the current Taichi ~Aww). The particular thing I remember about that week was Taichi talking on the broadcast channel with Tomoki’s corpse, for some insane reason I felt it was funny, maybe it was the way he phrased the words? (e.g. You’re a slient guy eh?, it’s your fault the antenna is so short now, etc...)

It started getting more emo-ish when Taichi decided to send the rest of the gang back to their real world. This provides even more insight and the possible happy endings. I really like the part where Taichi sends them back “I burn the image of ____ into my mind, so that the time we spend together will always be remembered”(can’t remember the actual lines) as he knows he should not return back to the real world because he is much too dangerous (sob). The song (Signal) that played in the background then did just the job, painting the emotions of farewell to a old friend that you will never see again…

Apologizing about being unable to change anything at all, as a week was simply too short to heal the wounds his friends, he hopes that what he had done will help them move on.

It was heartbreaking to see Taichi falling apart when he realized he was all alone in the world and there was no way for him to return, scrapping frantically in his mind for memories of his friends. Reality drifted away as he embraced madness… It was also then his memories of Nanaka surfaced, as he recalled that she was indeed his mother, that somehow kept him sane and made him realized he was much human like the rest of them…

With no way to return to the real world, he continues to build the antenna every week to broadcast his feelings, to his friends and anyone that is listening… Knowing that his feelings will be eventually be received by the listener.

Ending with that classic line: “See you next week…”

It’s been bothering me. What exactly was the last scene that I saw? Was Taichi just dreaming out the rest of the gang on the roof? Or perhaps it’s really them on the roof in the other world talking about Taichi?

The happy days...

With this chapter closed. It’s time for me to move on.

Shiny-yyy!

Well, well where should I start?

The trip to Kinokuniya was quite fruitful, I finally bought the novel I was collecting plus the Negima manga (The wait for 20% discount is finally over!). Was disappointed when I couldn’t find the novel for Bakemonogatari(化物語), which I regret not purchasing when I saw it a while back, I was crazy enough to try look for the Japanese version of the novel, that itself was not successful as well (I found the shelf, but was lazy to look through the titles >_<).

Visited the new Sommerset 313(why the name 313? That I never figured out) and it was there where I got the watch from the picture you see above, as a fantastic present from my Poly friends (Thanks again guys :D), it’s uberly(is there such a word?) shiny!

The day ended with me meeting up with an old secondary school friend, with his jokes and stuff we had dinner, started this discussion about what kind of girls we would like and stuff XD. It was real fun tho.

Wow… Looks it I managed to turn this into a very normal and boring blog post…

It’s usual right? Once school gets into full power, my motivation to do other things dries up. It’s just the second week and I am feeling tired from all the things I need to cram into my head again… Why did the summer break go by so soon!?

Perhaps it’s time to do it the zen way. Anyways, the good thing is that some of the anime TV series I am waiting for is going to start in a bit, yay!

Train travels to school has been tolerable so far, thanks to the book Lila (sequel to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance), which unfortunately I had finished reading earlier this Thursday.

Time to look for another distraction on the train ride.

The case of the missing shoe

I was back from disposing the rubbish for the day, and just happened to look next to the shoe rack. Something just looked different, I counted the number of shoes on the floor.

One, two, three… Eh? Three!?

There was supposed to be four shoes there. Worried I might have counted wrongly, I did another count…

Still ended with 3! I touched the empty space to make sure my shoe didn’t just turn invisible or something. Nothing. It wasn’t under the rack either.

Took the shoes out of the shoe rack to check. Still nothing. Panicking inside (those were new shoes ), I stared at the remaining shoe of the pair, now that one is missing I would need to buy a new pair. Sigh.

Ah, there is still another place! I looked at the window ledge (I air out my shoes there sometimes), cluttered with the foldable clothes hangers on grills of the window, I lifted the clothes that were put out to dry. Nothing again.

Gathering all the people in the house, I questioned if any of them saw my shoes. One said he saw it earlier went he went for work (that morning) but didn’t see it when he returned. The other said she didn’t really take notice of the shoe, but was very sure she did not air that particular pair that day.

It wasn’t possible that the shoe managed to disappear into thin air… That would meant one of them lied, or didn’t tell the whole truth. It couldn’t be stolen by a stranger (who would want just one shoe?), and the house was locked at all times.

A closed-room mystery. These words popped into my head.

So I recapped what I knew:

Only 3 of us have the keys to the house
Person A was out at work till evening, saw the shoes in the morning and didn’t see them when he came back
Person B was in the house whole day, didn’t go near the shoes except when she took down the hanged clothes when it was raining
I saw the shoes in the morning after Person A went out, but it went missing when I took out the trash (night time)

The only possible period where the shoe went missing is from morning to evening that day (it was such a big gap!), I tried to recall the order of events earlier :

Person A went out for work (Shoes were still there)
Person B hanged up the wet clothes to dry
I did my homework in my room
Started to pour heavily
Took down the shoes that were on the window ledge
Person B came by and said she will take down the clothes
I went to close the other windows in the house
Rain stopped
I fell asleep
Person B went out for lunch
Woke up and had lunch
Nothing special happened, fast forward to night time
Realized shoe was missing after disposing of garbage

It’s unlikely Person A or B lied, so the few possibilities I could think of is that either someone broke into the house (but still why take only 1 shoe?) or somehow I had sleepwalked and hid my shoe.

A search throughout the whole house turned up nothing. Getting annoyed that this was leading nowhere, I looked once more that the crime scene. The shoe had not turned up there, was I supposed to believe some house elf took my shoe as a trick?

I looked up at the clothes hanging on the window grills… And what did you know, I saw my shoe hanging at on the sides.

After an hour of search, I finally found my shoe! I could have sworn I didn’t see it there when I was looking through the hanged clothes, but since the clothes around it was dark in color too so it blended in.

How did it get there? I figured that Person B dropped the clothes hanger near the shoe when she was in a hurry to get them out of the rain, the shoelace hooked up to the side of the hanger, not realizing that, she hung them back when the rain stopped (including the one that the shoe hooked on).

Smiling at how it was just pure coincidence, it’s very much true how life sometimes is indeed stranger than fiction :D

Disappearance of Hatsune Miku

Any avid fans of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA will tell you, the song “Disappearance of Hatsune Miku” (初音ミクの消失), is one of the boss level songs for the game.

Especially on hard mode, this song turns the player into a button mashing maniac (one of my friends busted his button on this song XD).

Bluebirds Illusion

It was rather interesting that I happened to chanced upon this video clip again in 2, no 3 years:

Bluebirds are commonly associated with happiness, but I’m not sure it is the case for this Visual Novel (I haven’t had the chance to read it yet). From what I heard so far, all does not end well for the Elric brothers…

Well, if you had not caught the drift yet, Bluebird’s Illusion(青鳥の虛像) is a fan-made visual novel based on anime/manga: Full Metal Alchemist, the story branches off from the ending of the first anime(Not brotherhood), where Edward decides to stay in Central after everything.

Made by a few FMA fans in college, this visual novel was short lived, only a 100 copies was sold in it’s lifetime before they were stopped due to violation of copyright, and judging from the quality of the opening video, their(the makers of Bluebird’s Illusion) cg images could rival the real thing.

Eclipse 09

Woke up at 11 due to the nice cool morning, it was raining earlier apparently. Only to realize I missed the solar eclipse!

As one of the longest total solar eclipse recorded in the 21th century, this lasted from 08:40:51 AM to 09:43:55 AM (Singapore 8+GMT).

Looking at the pictures of the eclipse, the TV series Heroes kept popping into my head. Season 4 anyone?

Deciding I have to look at the eclipse no matter what, I YouTube-ed (is there such a word?) and found a nice clip showing the eclipse, it was covered by a Japan TV station NHK.

The view was spectacular! It was dark like the evening and you can see everyone was taking pictures of the eclipse. Looks like it will be a while before we can see one of those again.

Moonshine

I think the constant reminder of the upcoming solar eclipse has made me go read this visual novel (Really!).

Not sure how a Solar became a Lunar in my mind, but this was definitely a great read.

Translated as part of the al|together 2008 “CROSS THE RUBICON” festival, this short (30min - 1 hour) visual novel weaves the reader into a story of the narrator and the ‘girl’ Mai, with the narrator diagnosed as incapable to work in a office, he had found a job as office boy at a pub called ‘Shanty’, there he met Mai and everything began from there.

I don’t think I can say more without spoiling the visual novel.

One of the best thing in this visual novel is the way the writer describe things and how they built up the atmosphere by slowing letting bits of information out, plus it’s small but brilliant soundtrack does it’s role perfectly. For a freeware visual novel I’m rather surprised they had a voice over for the character Mai, plus a voiced song too!

To CosFest VIII and back again

CosFest (Short for Cosplay Festival). It’s back again once more! This time they call it “A very happy event”, and a happy event it sure was.

Well, this is the third time I’m went the CosFest, the very first one I went to was CosFest VI , one of the very first cosplay events I blogged about.

Everyone’s costumes looks a lot nicer this year! Don’t believe it? Try playing the photo slide show above!

I’m so glad I was able to attend this wonderful festival, there seems to be more doujinshi stores this time round, I’m looking at those pictures and wondering if one day I could draw as well as them...

The usual graffiti wall was quickly attacked by the drawing enthusiasts, the pity is that I only got a few shots of it.

As for competitions and winners…

It’s no surprise that Alex Louis ArmStrong of Full Metal Alchemist won the best singles cosplay with his Y.A.O.I song. (Yaoi anyone? Hahaha…)

Everybody go Y-A-O-I !

And the team who won the chance to represent Singapore to the World Cosplay Summit is the Macross Frontier Team! Congrats!

They dazzled the audience and the judges with their fantastic re-enactment of the final battle-stage from the anime: Macross Frontier, plus they sound great together too ;D

The out-of-body slap across time and space 0wnz. LOL.

Good luck, Macross Frontier team, everyone is rooting for ya two :D

The event ended with everyone doing the Caramel Dansen dance, and a very enthusiastic Krauser-san doing the teeth guitar. LOL.

Thanks to those “revolutionaries”, they has successfully destroyed my pictures on my blog. Well well… Kudos to you, Anti-Sec. You didn’t like the disclosure of exploits on the net?

Go through other medium to get the message across!

What you are doing now is like stopping violence with violence, see how great it’s working out? History has many records of its failure.

You don’t see anti-gun people going around to shoot people to prove that it is dangerous to do so… Why? Because it contradicts their ideology, this too contradicts yours too.

It’s not that I don’t understand your concerns, but the way you did it is wrong!

Long way home

Remember the story that I wrote in this post: What!? Another story? Well, I was toying around with the idea of making a visual novel for a while now, and suddenly it struck me: I should make that story into a visual novel as a test run, before I move on the make the real deal.

So I took the do-first-clean-up-later approach, and went to MorgueFile to look for the pictures I needed and started editing it, within a hour or so the images were done(title included). Deciding it was enough for a prologue, I dived into the story and converted it into a script, firing up the RenPy engine to combine everything together, well everything took longer than expected (Whole process took 5~6 hours) all the rewriting, placement of the pictures. Giving it a test run, it ran for less then 10min (6 hours work for a 10min read, LOL) to reach the end of the prologue.

To remind myself of what could be done if I tried, I decided to take a few screenshots:

I’m tipping my hat off to those successful Visual Novel makers, now I know how hard it is to make a Visual Novel.

Okami to Koushinryou aka Spice and Wolf

I like reading light novels, they are short but interesting. I recall that some has called it text anime, and that term is correct(Since many light novels end up being made into an anime). Well, the problem is that most of the great stuff are in Japanese T-T, save for a few that is lucky to get translated to other languages, but even in translation it may lose it’s original meaning/flavor.

So to spur myself to learn the Japanese language, I bought… No, not a Japanese for dummies book or any of those teach-yourself-language type. But rather I bought a Japanese light novel, 狼と香辛料 also known as Spice and Wolf.

Great idea eh?

Maybe… If i started reading it that is. Somehow the book ended up collecting dust for me, and until recently(ok, today) I picked it up and tried to read it, couldn’t even get pass the synopsis ( 行商人ロレソスは,麦… ) which reads “The merchant Lawrence,…”, it’s a slow start at least now I know how to pronounce those words “Gyoushoujin roresosu”, maybe by the end of this month I could read a whole full page ;).

Anyway, I found that light novels are typically smaller than a normal book. It’s a mystery why the translated book don’t retain the original size, you could argue the translated text is longer, but it shouldn’t be the case for the Chinese language. You can see the Spice and Wolf book is even smaller than translated novel on the left.

Hatsune Miku

Yes, I’m talking about the popular green hair leek wielding Vocaloid :D She been around for quite sometime, and honestly at first I shrugged it of as just a fad(it’s not :D). I think people round started growing more aware when composers become more proficient at creating songs with her, so apparently her fame increased.Then along came manga and perhaps a few steps shy of an anime series ^^.

Miku even has her own PSP game (Which I am hooked on at the moment, that explains this post doesn’t it ;) ). Songs I believe, are things that becomes nicer after hearing for a period of time(regardless voluntary or not) and especially after attaching meaning/memories to it.

Seeing how Miku’s songs has topped the charts more than once, I am convinced Vocaloid singers does have a place in the future music industry, a Sharon Apple perhaps?

Writing a blog is like making a manga :D

I had been reading the manga: Bakuman , a story which focuses on the 2 manga authors who tries their very best to reach the top of manga world. In that journey, the readers will come to know it’s not all play for the mangaka(refers to manga authors), getting published in a weekly manga magazine is just a start as they need to continuously maintain the reader’s interest to not get booted out.

What does that has to do with blog writing? Both involves grabbing the reader’s attention so as to survive in the manga/blogging world( a blog is officially dead if no one reads it), no more the “I think, therefore I exist”, rather it’s “They think, therefore I exist”.

Looking my 3 year old blog, I realized it hasn’t been too successful(duh). For one thing, my blog don’t attract many visitors it doesn’t have any "specialized content” as those pro-bloggers would say…

Well, I’m no idiot, I do read the stats chart that tell what is the popular posts here:
1) Anime reviews
2) PSP visual novel ports
3) How to download/play YouTube clips

I dropped anime reviews due to the anime *cough* cleansing saga of ‘07 (didn’t want any trouble), I did a more detailed post of porting of VNs to have a steady stream of visitors (didn’t get much more but the occasional 3-4 per blue moon), the third was the actually the one that generated the most traffic in the days(I translated a Japanese tutorial in getting flv to work on windows media player) until the main guy’s webby went down, and the traffic pretty much died with it.

So it’s back to the drawing board again… Thanks for reading :D

What!? Another story?

Seems having a problem going to bed at night has it’s interesting results too. Whenever I try to close my eyes and blank out to await my trip into sleepland, something always pop up (ranging from forgotten tasks to some fantasy plot). Well, the first isn’t that interesting so I will talk about the latter here.

Okay, I get ideas for stories when I go to bed… It’s weird I know, but most of the time it’s entertaining (for me). It’s like a mini theater in my head and I imagine characters and scenarios happening, this act usually exhaust me a lot (i think) and I go into dreamland with no problem.

In the mornings, if I remember any from the previous night’s ideas, I try to write it out, there’s one from a few nights ago (Yes, on that night this blog went down):

The wooden floor groaned as I made my way towards the sound of the howling wind.
A nightmare’s remains haunted me, I couldn’t remember the specifics but I was definitely running away from something scary, sweat was pouring like a tap on a hot day. There wasn’t much light to make out where I was, my hands was out to feel the way, I was searching for something, something of great importance.
What was it again?
I couldn’t remember, but something is hauntingly familiar about this place.
Was I here before?
More questions appeared, but I shrugged it off as déjà vu was common in places like these. The wind died for a moment, then it came back in tenfold, the door in front of me tore right open, the cold breeze chilled my sweat filled body, that act also brought the moonlight into the area.
Like a slow painter, the moonlight filled in the details of the place as it slowly crept in. A room that was built entirely of wood, signs of decay can be seen in many places. They were either the signs of an uninhabited place or the owner was really lazy in keeping the place in one piece.
I walked through the open door to arrive at a well furnished room, from the carpet to the wallpaper; the tall open French windows at the corner silently letting the moonlight stream in. The scent of flowers filled the room as the whole room was covered in them except for the very center, where there was a four poster bed and next to it a dresser, much like those you can see in old movies and castles.
There was a path from the entrance to the bed, not wanting the tread on the flowers I slowly walked to the bed stand.
Those flowers were fresh… Meaning that someone was here?
I raised the drapes surrounding the four poster bed… Tears ran down my cheeks.
I am… crying?
Sadness overwhelmed as I saw what that was on the bed.
It was a girl.
Dressed in a white nightgown, her long black hair laid on the white mattress, like a princess.
“I’m sorry…”
Those words left my mouth before I was aware of it. I tried to recall the reason, but nothing comes to mind, it was like something I had long forgotten.
She has been awfully still for a while… Is she still… alive?
I held my fingers under her nose, she was still breathing. A sense relief filled me as I confirmed that fact, I was not alone in here!
“She won’t wake up… At least not like the way she is now…”
I turned around to the owner of the voice, it was another girl. Like a total contrast to the white princess on the bed, this girl was dressed in black from the jacket to her miniskirt; she was twirling her shoulder length brown hair as she spoke.
“What do you mean?”
“Aww… You really forgot?”
The girl feigned a surprised look then she smiled as she continued speaking.
“The extraction was a success… perhaps too successful, it has blown away a huge chuck of your memories in the process”
“What are you talking about…”
She is dangerous… I should get away from her…
That was what my body was telling me, this was not my first encounter with her. But she is my only clue why I was here… Shaking my fear away I continued to pound her with questions.
“Who are you? Why am I here? And what do you mean she won’t wake up?”
“Whoa… kiddo, 1 question at a time”
She kicked the flowers away as she moved closer to me.
“I am what you humans call a fairy, my name is Lyis”
I did a double take at that mention of a fairy, she looked nothing like the classic description of a fairy, no wings and she was of normal human size. She looked more like a normal teenager you can see at a shopping mall.
Seeing doubt written all over my face, Lyis sighed and did a few gesture with her fingers, the candles around the room lit up all of a sudden…
“You see, I grant humans wishes… at a price of course.”

Just found out that blogsome is back up! :D Woot!

One more thing, I switched from Zoundry Raven to Windows Live Writer, just in case you have no idea what the above mentioned are, they are simply programs that help a blogger post and manage their blog.

As for reasons why I jumped ship, was mainly because I don’t think I will see more updates for Zoundry Raven as their project updates kinda stopped for a long time ago, don’t get me wrong by all means it is not a bad blog editor. So I am trying out WLW for the time being.

I guess you can say that it was part of the reason i went to find a Ragnarok Server to play in :)

Watching anime like those, makes me wanna go out and have an adventure...

Was thinking of eat curry chicken noodles, but when we reached the store, we found out that it's out of stock? Maybe noodles sold out already, cos i can see they still have curry chicken left...

Maybe should ask for curry chicken+rice instead :)

The ragnarok online game i was talking about before, the client size is about 818 mb size! Have to make 2 trips cos my thumbdrive only can hold 512mb...

The documentation on the email system that i was working on is almost complete... Now only left the indexing and rearranging of the data :)

I arrived at work some time ago , but was doing some stuff (Actually, i am transfering some stuff to my thumbdrive)

So... lets start with the usual ranting... Only 2 days left! (Not counting today ^_^)

Now trying to find an online game to play during the holidays... i think i will try ragnarok online :)

But it's download client is super big (T-T), and filefront don't allow me to use flashget...

Talking about downloads... Rapidshare won't let me download, last time was the queuing system, which i can still understand... but now it checks the session ip! My ip won't be the same cos my ISP uses a proxy (T-T).

Time to add rapidshare to the list of filesharing website i can't download from...

Times... like these i don't know what to write for my title...

Just got back from lunch... Went around scouting for new foodplaces with my friends, had our lunch at an thai resturant...

I ordered thai fried rice, well...

I must say i looked nothing like the fried rice i used to eat at the foodcourt and oher places...

Dispike it's look, it actually tastes quite nice, i think they actually placed something sweet in the rice (May be due to my imagination :) )

Hmm... now when i am writing this entry, i'm feeling a little energy-less... maybe due to my lack of sleep?

Found out they where serving chicken chop at the canteen there, must wait till thursday for the claypot rice again (T-T).

I think by the afternoon i would have the final draft (I hope)

Now waiting for fate/stay night (Anime) to finish download :)

I was thinking of using a different blog editor, its called 'performacing' or something like that :)
But there are still some major bugs in it (T-T) i think i will stick with "Deepest Sender" for a while until the bugs are fixed.

As usual i was listening to my mp3 player on the train, was quite crowded today cos i left home late (No, i am not blaming on the anime i've been watching).

Finally i reach Raffle Places, i opened my eyes (I normall close my eyes and listen to music on the train), i realized that they were lots of people who were near my age, all wearing causal wear (I have to wear formal because i'm working today (T-T)), i wonder if they are also students or working adults :)

Oh ya, i met one of my old poly friend on the way (She tapped my shoulder), at first i didn't know who she was ^_^, then we talked about the SIP report and stuff, i found out she works near my area too :)

Haizzz… Just few more mins till I am off work, didn’t do much today…

Below was what I wrote a few days ago at work (^-^)

Prologue - The boy and the moon

Why do you look up at the sky for the moon?

The boy whispered to the wind…

The wind blowing gently at his feet answered with a silent whistle…

Is that so? You are feeling lonely?

As if agreeing, the night breeze grew stronger…

I see… I think she misses you too…

The wind answered with a sad howl…

Why don’t you go see her then?

The wind grew weaker and slowly the howl became softer …

That’s just sad to hear… Shall I bring her to you then?

The wind danced around the boy, like a young child in excitement…

Okay then… Two days later, I shall bring her here…

Part 1 – The girl in the moon

The garden was never so quiet; the sound of the petals falling can be heard…

The wind from the previous day seems to have stopped…

The boy made his way to his favorite spot, the old maple tree in the garden…

He stood there and looked up to the moon…

You still can’t make up your mind yet? He will be here tomorrow... you know…

The surroundings were still silent…

Don’t you want to see him too?

The same silent surrounded the boy…

The boy examined the old box, which was on the other side of the tree…

He left this here for you, didn’t him?

Part 2 – The old maple tree

The maple tree has seen better days…

Now only a shadow of it’s former self…

Back in the days when the garden was young, the maple tree that stood at the center…

It was a popular spot amongst the children that visited the garden, now the garden has been forgotten…

No longer can the sound of laughers of children’s be heard once more…

The maple tree grew weak… Lost hope, started to wilt… It was worst every year…

But thankfully, a child managed to find this garden once more…

The child was no ordinary boy…

He who can speak with wind…

He who can see the girl in the moon…

The maple tree was thankful for a companion, after such a long lonely existence with only itself…

I was busy doing my Major Project and my other school project, doesn't seems to have much time to write this blog.

Oh ya, i returned the book tap dancing in zen today, and borrowed a new book...

Its "meeting monkey halfway" (I think), spent some time at the library machine because my card was not working...

Which was funny, when i was about to give up... My library card finally worked! But after that, i encountered the same error (T-T)

No... I am not suffering from amnesia...

I was thinking about this question... Who exactly am i?

My usual response to this is that i am an average guy living an average life...

Nothing special about me...

Wait... If i am a average guy then... Will i disappear... Forgotten like every average guy?

Cos people don't really notice my kind of people...

They usually care about the super good and super bad... Sad to say they don't remember those in the middle...

So i strive to be special... Tried to join the rank of the elites... Didn't work out so well...

Seems that they were simply too "Elite" to start with...

And not to say... i wouldn't want to attract negative attention from people, so being super bad was out of the question...

Which makes me still stuck at the average bunch... Haiz...

You know, all this stuff could be the work of my judging mind... In other words my ego... Pride...

That kind of feeling that you have to be bigger and better then people...

To be free from our ego we no longer need to satisfy such an unhealthy hunger...

Had a scary nightmare yesterday night/early morning...

I can't seems to remember it clearly now...

I think it got something to do about zombies... I just remember it's a scary dream...

I woke up sweating... My window was open... The clouds in the sky looked yellow...

I didn't dare to close my eyes... Until i felt that i was safe...

I think you must agree with me, most people nowadays own their own handphone, the age goes down from like 10...

It seems that a handphone has become an extention of a person, it like part of your body...

This craze i think kicked in when i was still in secondary school...

Before that, i thought...

It's now me staring blankly at the code my team leader gave me to convert animations to png file...

Sure... It's coded nicely... It takes in a animation file, then outputs a png file of it...

Sounds wonderful huh? Well, it just seems that it can only read in files! Not binary streams!

How am i going to convert them this way...?

The next thing is that my supervisor for my Major Project wants me to display the frame filled png as a animation on the web...

Is that even possible? Am i going to convert the png back to animation?

Why didn't i update my blog for one day?

Well, i was busy playing on a new MU private server... (MUPK)

Which took away most of my time (',')... I admit being lazy was one of the factor...

Today?

Well, i stayed in school till like 6... Reached home at 7+ started gaming again...

So is that right or wrong?

In some way i would want it to be right... Then i wouldn't feel so guilty playing away my free time...

On the other hand... I wanted my self to feel guilty doing so... Because i knew i had other important stuff to do (like blogging...)

How's my preparation?

Don't think gonna help much, hope the training i done on some weekends can pay off...

The cartooning course i signed up for is also tomorrow... Wah... I sure hope the NAPFA test ends before 6pm, cos that's the time my cartooning course starts...

I know, worries doesn't solve anything... But the strange thing is by worrying, i am actually convincing my self that it would be alright?

Stayed back in school to debug my Web Submission System... Well, still some bugs left but can say that it performs basic functions...

One thing i keep telling myself, i need to do this... do that... When i reach home...

But guess what? 3/4 of the time i will drift of to do other stuff (T-T)

Maybe that's what people call "short attention span" ?

Ah... After hearing about my worrying and stuff... i guess it kinda paints a gloomy picture huh?

Today when i woke up, i looked around...

It seems be be a colorless day...

I meant that things around suddenly seems so dull... Like adding gray to all the bright colors...

Ya... i wrote this entry early because i know, i got lots of stuff to do later (T-T)

like the booking of the medical check up (Sianz... Going NS soon...)

And some of my other work (The extract frame thingy...)

I didn't write anything yesterday, because i was out voluteering for the thing i signed up (volunteer-a-day)

Next week is NAFA test aready...

Hows my preparation?

Guess, will have to go in NS earlier if i don't pass... (T-T)

Lets just hope a miracle will happen on the test date :)

No.... I just though my internet speed just went down... I hope it is just my imagination playing...

Haha... I couldn't stop myself to finish the "Harry Potter: Half-blood prince" I took like 3 hours to read through the remaining pages from before...

So how the ending?

Well, it is sad... Because a lot happened in the end... ('-')

And about the identity of half blood prince was unexpected (For me)

Also not forgetting harry's new girlfriend :)

Read the book, it is a good read :)

Okay i know that reading of the book took a large amount of working time from me... But i felt that i had to finish the book...

After i finished it... I feel so empty, i want MORE!!

Oh well, have to wait patiently for the next book... (Which i think will be out in a few years)

It is talking about me... I don't have enough time!

Why?

I am not too clear on this too...

Always when i start to relax, i find stuff stacked on me...

Take now for an instance, i was about to blog... A call sent me on a quest to look for "How to extract frames from GIF/flash"

I was suddenly overwhelmed! I felt like i was trying to squeeze an empty lemon for more juice...

I just felt sad... Deep down inside me, i can say that i hate the person who called...

Even although i know it wasn't his fault, wish that my problems would go away... (Like frodo wishing the ring never came to him...)

I know, i know i should be shameful of such behavior, i will keep that in mind...

Blame... We often like to push the blame on other people or objects... Never realizing that we have ourselves to blame for our troubles...

Its always "The bus is late!", "The test was too hard"...

Never "I woke up late and missed the bus", "I didn't study enough"...

This is also present in me too, you can see from what i wrote above...

Why is it so hard to put the blame on ourselves instead of other?

Pride maybe?

I guess i should go to sleep now, shouldn't stay up too late... Isn't good for your body :)

Yup, a daydreamer... I guess you can call me that :)

What's wrong with daydreaming?

Well, nothing is wrong with that, but excessive daydreaming can be dangerous...

After all, daydreams aren't real...

So no point getting happy or sad over something that isn't even real...

But sometimes... It seems so hard to not to daydream...

Or fantasies, i had a wonderful daydream in the library today (I was supposed to be calming my mind):

I dreamt about a young man (About 18~20) drinking a tea from a cup (Those small cup the Chinese drink out of), he was sitting under a tree...

On a hill that overlooked a vast field, he was thinking about how he met the girl of his dreams...

It was funny tho, the two met because of him, accidentally throwing the tea cup at her...

He went up and apologize...There under the tree, their friendship grew...

They had many happy and sad moments together...

The flash-back stopped there... Tears rolled down his cheek...

He put down the cup under the tree...

Walked down to the field slowly... Then turning back, and waved to the tree...

As if thanking the tree that has always been there for him...

The screen now zoomed to the truck of the tree... It was a heart shape carved onto the trunk, below was the year 19XX (Can't remember quite clearly now) ~ 2005...

And the daydream ended...

It is like a movie huh?

Yeah, i though so too... Wonder what happened to the girl tho?

What was the meaning of the year carved on the tree?

Did some work on my Major project... Just found out today that we may need to have a prototype to show our supervisor (Oh no!)

Well, today's mediation session was quite restless, was able to hold my mind for a while...

I guess i would need to work harder... And try not to lose my temper so easily... (Sorry mom! I shouldn't have complain about you nagging)

Hehe... I haven't forgotten about this blog.

It was just that i was too tired to blog this week.

You know this week is my 1 week break, which i refer as "Project Week".

Was at school most of the days, but don't worry...

I finished most of my projects...

Now... I just need more rest... More is coming my way (T-T)...

This week, a lot things happened... Like the NKF thing, which is mentioned in many blogs.

My judgment on the matter? Nah, i think i wouldn't want to judge... Wrong and right always so hard to differentiate...

Besides... I am not the CEO of NKF, i don't know what really happened...

So i will be unfair to judge on the tiny evidences given by the media...

People make mistakes... But not everyone is so lucky to have a second chance ya'know...

Got kicked out of work
His dog 'Died'
Poor until get money from his sister
Got looked down upon by everybody

Not able to take it anymore, he ends his life ...

So maybe try to be nicer to people next time? Making people feel happy will also do you good :)

Haha... Just becos yesterday was the last day of term test, i held a post term test celebration which, consist me playing different games non-stop (gunz,mu online,...) today.

Ya, i did stop play MU for sometime now, but it seems that it has me hooked on again...

I am currently playing in this server: MU-Fun

Aiya... My ENAD team mate has already SMS me on what to do for the project...

Now I can't play much games again... (T-T)

At least the project is do-able, hopefully...
